New Beginnings
Lot 44:
Description
This large-scale contemporary mixed media work is by the Ivorian artist Aboudia (Abdoulaye Diarrassouba). The work is executed on an unstretched, irregularly shaped canvas support and belongs to the artist’s Noutchy series, which draws inspiration from the street children of Abidjan. The dense composition features a variety of collage elements, including photographic clippings of children and a woman’s portrait, set against a background of newspaper print and a prominent red heart motif. The surface is heavily worked with thick black gestural lines, drips, and splatters of red, yellow, and blue paint. A multi-colored grid pattern is visible on the right side of the composition. The edges of the canvas are intentionally ragged and left unstretched. On the verso, the piece bears a black ink inscription over a white-painted block that reads Sanford Black / Boca Raton Fla / Suffolk CV 38. This inscription represents a previous owner’s mark and delivery address in Florida.
Condition report:
The painting is in good overall condition. The unstretched canvas displays some surface creasing and minor edge wear consistent with the artist\'s chosen medium and presentation style. There is no evidence of significant pigment loss, flaking, or structural damage.
