Description
This oil on canvas painting by Marsha Steinberg is a contemporary study and homage to John Singer Sargent’s 1879 work, In the Luxembourg Gardens. The composition depicts a leisurely park scene in a late 19th-century style, featuring figures in period dress strolling through a formal garden. The scene includes a balustrade, classical statues, and a small pond under a hazy moon or sun. The work is executed with fluid, impressionistic brushwork and a soft, muted palette. The painting is signed Marsha in the lower right corner. The verso of the canvas features a handwritten inscription that reads: Marsha Steinberg 9/99 / with homage to / J. S.
