Description
This mid-century oil on board painting depicts a wet Parisian street scene, featuring the recognizable facade of the Maison Catherine in Montmartre. The work is executed in a stylized expressionist manner, characterized by bold, dark outlines and a warm palette of ochre and burnt sienna. The artist utilized confident, textured brushwork with areas of light impasto to create the composition. Vertical lines and reflections on the pavement contribute to the atmospheric depth of the scene. The painting is signed LIUBA and inscribed PARIS 67 in the lower-left corner. It is housed in a black-painted wooden frame with a gilt inner fillet and a wide, ochre-colored fabric-covered mat, protected under glass. The verso of the piece shows the unpainted wooden board support with structural horizontal slats and a wire for hanging.
