Description
Embroidered "Grandma Sarah Jane Beatty" and dated 1858. Central field of roses and a floral vining border, in red and green, with elaborate quilting and stuffed work. 84" by 84". Sarah Jane Beatty (1839-1917) was born in Guernsey County to Abraham and Hannah Mosier. She married William Beatty in 1861 and the couple settled in Noble County shortly thereafter. William died in 1880 after being kicked in the head by a horse. The emboidered name and date may have been added by Sarah Jane’s grandaughter, Dora Rich Miller, whose mother-in-law Nancy Laughlin Miller, made many of the quilts in this auction.
