New Beginnings
Lot 98:
Description
This Japanese Satsuma-style ceramic vase features an ovoid body tapering to a short cylindrical neck and a small, slightly flared foot. The exterior is finished in a characteristic cream-colored crackle glaze. The central decoration consists of hand-painted polychrome enamels with extensive raised gold moriage detailing, depicting two peacocks among flowering cherry blossom branches and other foliage. The base is accented with a decorative geometric and floral border in iron-red and gold. The style and execution are consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century Japanese export wares.
Dimensions: 5 X 5 X 5 inch.
Condition report:
The vase is in good overall condition. The crackled glaze is a deliberate stylistic choice characteristic of this type of pottery. No chips, cracks, or restorations are observed. The enameled and gilded decoration appears well-preserved with no significant loss or wear visible.
