Description
A pair of contemporary studio pottery plates by artist Gala Sorkina. These small circular plates are constructed from glazed earthenware and feature hand-painted underglaze decorations on a cream ground. One plate is decorated with a large pink rose accompanied by green leaves and black scrolling vines. The second plate features an all-over pattern of hand-painted blue polka dots. Both pieces exhibit hand-formed qualities with slightly irregular rims and low-profile foot rings. The reverse of each plate is signed by the artist in green script. The floral plate is marked Gala Sorkina 91, and the polka dot plate is marked Gala Sorkina 98.
Dimensions: 7 X 7 X 0.5 inch.
Condition report:
Both plates exhibit fine, overall crazing to the glossy glaze. There is light surface wear consistent with age and use, including minor staining on the unglazed foot rings. No chips, cracks, or evidence of professional restoration are visible.
